What is an eFoil?

An eFoil is an electric surfboard that consists of six (6) main components; board, battery, electric box, propulsion unit (part of the mast), wings (front and back), and a hand held bluetooth controller.

The rider sets the controller to the desired power and the trigger is pressure sensitive like a gas pedal; meaning the more you squeeze, the more power you apply, and vice versa.

The eFoil is designed to ride high out of the water on the wings at the bottom of the mast. The wings move effortlessly through water, similar to how an airplane moves through the air. The mast allows the board to move high up off of the water and cuts through waves like a hot knife through warm butter.

It requires much less speed and power than one would first imagine to lift the board and the rider up off the surface of the water and onto the wings. This is referred to as being “up on foil.” Once this is achieved, the entire unit becomes very responsive to slight movements and shifts in weight, allowing for wicked smooth turns that simply feel magical.

As Laird Hamilton states in Lift’s documentary, the real beauty in an eFoil is simply this, “The surf is always up.”

Mellow cruises on glassy days are Zen-like and wonderful, but it doesn’t end there. In fact, that’s just the beginning.
